Medicaid is often a critical but misunderstood funding source for clients facing long-term care costs. Daily Money Managers (DMMs) are frequently among the first professionals to recognize when a client may be at risk of outliving resources or requiring nursing home care. This presentation provides a practical overview of Medicaid eligibility concepts, application requirements, and common planning considerations from a national perspective rather than focusing on state-specific rules.
Using real-world case studies, attendees will learn how to identify situations that may require Medicaid planning, gather the information typically needed for an application, recognize potential complications such as real estate holdings, family farms, business interests, trusts, prior gifts, and married-couple situations, and determine when referral to an elder law attorney is appropriate. The program will also discuss the role of the DMM in supporting clients and families through the Medicaid application and planning process.
