This session will go through the various issues that arise in household employment and discuss the different types of employment, and what is appropriate for circumstances. We will also discuss the compliance implications, on a broad general level, of other state compliance requirements such as workers compensation and disability benefits (including Paid Family Leave) requirements.

Participants will gain an understanding of the Federal labor laws for employment in the home, as well as an understanding on how states laws work and coalesce. Participants will also gain an understanding of benefits available to employees such as Paid Family leave, sick and vacation pay, and unemployment which have taken on a greater importance in the time of Covid-19.

Intended Audience: Anyone interested in learning about the risks associated with employment, as well as the definition f co-employment for people involved in arranging schedules on behalf of clients. 

Presenter: Evan Gilder, CPA

Evan Gilder is a CPA and has been an instructor on the topic of household employment for many years. He runs the household practice and is a partner at the accounting firm of Redlig Financial Services Inc. and has been a member of AADMM for many years. Other aspects of his expertise include employee benefits, such as sick and vacation time, and unemployment and Paid Family Leave.
