This webinar will review the different types of bankruptcy available to individuals and to businesses, assets that can be protected and preserved despite a bankruptcy filing, and the types of debt that can be eliminated in bankruptcy…as well as those that cannot.  The program will also discuss steps clients should take when bankruptcy becomes inevitable and actions to avoid.  The program will also review important bankruptcy terms including “discharge”, “exemption”, and “automatic stay” and explain the roles served in a bankruptcy case by the Judge, the bankruptcy Trustee, and the other professionals typically involved

Participants will learn about the different types of bankruptcy available to clients who find themselves in financial distress and how those bankruptcy cases typically work for clients in need.  Participants will also learn about some of the risks associated with bankruptcy and some common actions that individuals sometimes take prior to bankruptcy that can increase those risks.

Intended Audience: Anyone who might be advising clients facing financial challenges.

Christine Devine has more than twenty-eight years of legal experience helping people and businesses find practical solutions to challenging financial problems. She has represented both debtors and creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy and pre-bankruptcy workouts.  Christine has experience working on complex matters including the representation of individuals seeking to discharge certain debts, businesses in need of restructuring, trustees liquidating unique assets, and a wide range of businesses and individuals seeking cost effective advice when encountering a bankruptcy case or other distressed financial situation.
